Fireplace help for Nashville-area homes

From Nashville and Brentwood to Franklin, Murfreesboro, Hendersonville and Gallatin, many Middle Tennessee fireplaces are gas logs, gas inserts or direct-vent gas units that come on for chilly evenings and the odd winter cold snap, alongside plenty of electric units. If yours won't light, show a tech by video.

Gas emergency numbers in Middle Tennessee

  • Spire (Nashville area, billed as Piedmont during the changeover): 800-752-7504, or 911. Spire says Nashville-area customers can keep calling 800-752-7504 for natural gas emergencies, or 911. Leave the area first and call from somewhere safe.
  • Atmos Energy (Franklin, Murfreesboro, Nolensville): 866-322-8667, or 911. Atmos Energy says to leave the area, then call 911 and its toll-free emergency line from a safe distance. It sends a trained technician to investigate at no cost.

Not sure which company serves you? Use the emergency number printed on your gas bill. If your gas comes from a tank, see the propane section below.

Mostly electric heat, gas fireplaces still common

60% of Tennessee homes heat mainly with electricity, 35% with natural gas and 3% with propane (EIA, 2020). So around Nashville a gas fireplace or log set often sits in a house with a heat pump and only runs on the colder nights, which is when a pilot that's been off since spring tends to give trouble. Down I-24 and I-75, see metro Atlanta.

Piedmont became Spire, but the number didn't change

On March 31, 2026, the natural gas provider for Nashville and the surrounding region changed from Piedmont Natural Gas to Spire. Spire says Piedmont keeps handling bills, account numbers and payments on its behalf until the changeover is complete in 2027, so your bill may still say Piedmont, and 800-752-7504 is still the number for gas emergencies (or 911). Service technicians now drive Spire-branded trucks.

Franklin and Murfreesboro are on Atmos

The metro is split between gas companies. Atmos Energy's Tennessee tariff lists Franklin, Murfreesboro, Nolensville and nearby parts of Rutherford and Williamson counties as one of its service areas, so homes there call Atmos, not Spire, about a leak. Either way, get out of the house first, then call from a safe place.

Propane fireplace in Middle Tennessee?

If your fireplace runs on propane (a tank or cylinders outside and a propane company that delivers, rather than a utility gas meter), the utility numbers above aren't your first call. Smell gas? Get out, then call your propane supplier, or 911, from outside. In Tennessee, 3% of homes heat mainly with propane (EIA, 2020).

Propane fireplaces have a few problems of their own: a low or empty tank, a fireplace that won't light after a refill, and a regulator buried in snow or ice. The propane industry's safety guide says that if your tank runs out, your propane supplier or a qualified pro should leak-check the system before the gas goes back on. Our guide covers the safe checks: propane fireplace won't light or stay lit.

Electric fireplaces in Middle Tennessee homes

Tennessee leans electric for heat, and a lot of Nashville-area homes, from Gulch and Germantown condos to new builds out in Gallatin and Murfreesboro, have an electric fireplace or a media-wall insert. We help with those by video too. A tech goes through the safe checks with you: plugged straight into a working wall outlet (no extension cord or power strip), the breaker or GFCI not tripped, fresh remote batteries, and the maker's reset after a cool-down if the overheat switch shut it off. We'll never ask you to open the unit or touch wiring. See electric fireplace not working.

Common questions

Do you have a fireplace technician in Nashville?

Our techs help by video, from anywhere. You show the tech your fireplace with your phone and they guide you by voice. If the job needs someone on site, we'll help you find a local pro.

Who do I call if I smell gas in Nashville?

Leave first. From a safe place, call 911 or Spire at 800-752-7504 (your bill may still say Piedmont). In Franklin, Murfreesboro or Nolensville, call 911 and Atmos Energy at 866-322-8667.

My bill still says Piedmont. Did anything change for my fireplace?

Spire took over Piedmont's Nashville-area gas business on March 31, 2026, and says the phone number, bill and rates stay the same during the changeover. Your fireplace works the same way. If it won't light, a tech can help by video, and if it needs hands-on work, we'll help you find a local pro.
