Before you order: rule out the simple stuff

Many electric fireplace "failures" are power, a setting or the overheat cutoff. Check these first:

  • The plug is straight into a working wall outlet (no extension cord or power strip), and the breaker or GFCI isn't tripped.
  • The power switch on the unit itself is on.
  • Fresh remote batteries, and the remote is paired.
  • The heater is switched on and the thermostat is set above room temperature.
  • If it shut itself off, it's had the cool-down and reset your manual gives.

Our guide electric fireplace not working covers each step, with the reset times from Dimplex, Napoleon, Touchstone and Amantii manuals.

Which part? Common symptoms

These are the parts most often involved. A tech confirms it before you buy, because the same symptom can have more than one cause.

What you're seeingParts often involved
Remote does nothing, but the panel on the unit worksRemote (after fresh batteries and re-pairing)
Nothing works from the panel or the remote, on a working outletControl board, receiver, power switch
Flames work, but no heat (settings checked)Heater or fan assembly, thermal switch
Heater keeps shutting off after a proper resetThermal switch, heater or fan assembly (and check the vents)
Flame effect frozen, clicking, dim or missing a colorFlame-effect motor, LED strip or bulbs
Loud, rattling or squealing fanFan or heater assembly
Cracked glass or damaged frontFront glass, panel or trim

Breaker keeps tripping? Stop resetting it. That usually points to the circuit, which is a job for an electrician, not a part.

Electric fireplace parts we source

Electric fireplace remote

Replacement remotes matched to your model, plus help pairing it.

Common sign: Remote screen is blank or won't control the unit after fresh batteries and re-pairing.

Electric heater / fan assembly

Heater and blower assemblies for electric fireplaces and inserts.

Common sign: Flames work but no heat, after the settings and thermostat are checked; or a loud, rattling fan.

Electric flame-effect motor, LEDs or bulbs

Flicker motors, LED light strips and bulbs that create the flame effect, by model.

Common sign: Flame effect is frozen, dim, missing a color, or clicking.

Electric control board

Main control boards, control panels and receivers for electric units.

Common sign: Unit won't respond from the panel or the remote, or shows an error code.

Electric thermal switch / cutoff

Overheat thermal switches and temperature cutoffs. Repeated trips have a cause that needs finding first.

Common sign: Heater keeps shutting off even after a proper cool-down and reset.

Electric glass / front panel

Front glass, panels, trim and mesh screens for electric fireplaces and inserts.

Common sign: Cracked or scratched front glass, or a damaged trim or panel.

Why the exact model matters

Electric fireplace parts are usually specific to the model, and sometimes to the production run. Remotes are paired to a particular receiver, heater assemblies and boards differ in size, wiring and connectors, and front glass is cut for one unit. A model number from the label, plus a photo, lets us find the part that actually fits.

Safety: who should replace electric parts

A replacement remote or, on some models, bulbs are owner-replaceable. Heater assemblies, flame motors, boards and thermal switches are inside the unit. Manufacturers such as Napoleon say only a qualified service person should service and repair their electric fireplaces. Never open an electric fireplace while it's plugged in or the breaker is on. If you need someone on site, we'll help you find a local pro.

Where to find the model and serial number

  • Look for a label on the back, side or underside of the unit, or just inside the top or bottom trim near the controls.
  • Wall-mount and freestanding units usually have it on the back or the base. Your owner's manual, the box or your receipt also show the model.
  • Built-in insert you can't see behind? Send a photo of the front, the control panel and any label you can reach, and we'll take it from there.
  • Never open an electric fireplace or pull it out while it's plugged in or the breaker is on.

Common questions

Can I buy a replacement remote for my electric fireplace?

Yes. Send us the model number and a photo of the old remote if you have it, and we'll match the right one and help you pair it.

Why does my electric fireplace have flames but no heat?

Usually a setting: the heater is off, the thermostat is set below room temperature, or the overheat cutoff has tripped and needs a cool-down and reset. If none of those fix it, the heater or fan assembly or a thermal switch may need replacing, and a tech can confirm which.

Do you sell parts for Dimplex, Touchstone and Amantii electric fireplaces?

Yes. We source parts for Dimplex, Napoleon, Touchstone, Amantii, SimpliFire and many other electric fireplace brands; availability depends on the part and model, and your quote confirms it. We're independent, not an authorized dealer for any manufacturer.

Can I replace the heater in my electric fireplace myself?

Internal parts like heaters, boards and thermal switches should be replaced by a qualified service person. Never open the unit while it's plugged in or the breaker is on.
